Angela Spears

Angela Spears

Angela Spears is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She began her professional life in the military, but after five years of active duty, she entered the Army reserves and went to college full time obtaining a bachelor’s in psychology and then a master’s degree in counseling.  During her time as a counselor, she worked in neuropsychological testing for developmental and childhood disorders as well as pediatric crisis and family counseling.  It was during this time that she was motivated to go to nursing school because she loved the integration of counseling along with the medical coordination of treatment which she was getting to do quite frequently on her case load.  Angela has a true passion for mental health and went on to work as a Registered Nurse in pediatric acute psychiatry treatment, pediatric residential psychiatric care, adult acute psychiatric care, and pediatric and adult substance abuse medical detoxification.  She also has experience with nursing admissions and pediatric palliative and hospice care.  However, her greatest joy is getting to work in pediatrics which is what brought her to specialize in pediatrics as a nurse practitioner.

Angela relocated to the Hampton Roads area in 2024 from Austin, Texas where she and her family resided for the six years.  During that time, she attended the University of Texas and obtained her MSN to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specializing in primary care. Prior to living in Austin, she lived in Northern Virginia.

Angela is a mother of four wonderful children, three boys and one girl, who range in age from 5 to 21 years old, so she is well versed in all the stages of parenting! Her daughter also has developmental and complex medical challenges. Angela said, “I am also a special needs mom so for those in the practice that experience those struggles, I can understand how difficult that can be from my own personal experiences, so I hope to be a support in navigating that process.”

In her spare time she loves to spend time with her husband, children, and friends.  Additionally, she loves to read, cook, and take walks on our beautiful VA trails. She is also currently finishing her Doctorate at the University of Alabama so much of her spare time is consumed with coursework and reading medical journals. Her husband has been in the US Army for the past 24 years, and as a veteran herself, she is excited to have the chance to serve some of the wonderful military families in our practice.
